Autumn 2016 Newsletter
Taunton Sinfonietta Autumn Newsletter
I hope you have all had a good summer and are looking forward to the second part of our season. Our next concert on 24th September at St. James' Church promises something for everyone as we welcome back clarinettist Colin Parr. Colin has performed with us over a number of years and has introduced us to some wonderful music. This year he will be playing Weber's Clarinet Quintet in an arrangement for full string orchestra and also Clive Jenkins' Romance for clarinet and strings. Those of you who came to our June concert will know just how accessible Clive's music is.
Our principal cellist Chris Sampson is the soloist in Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei. This gorgeous work is based on a Jewish prayer from the Day of Atonement, which falls this year in October. This arrangement of the work for cello and strings also features a harp and Sally Jenkins will be joining us to play this and also a short solo work for the harp by Faure. I have heard Sally play Mozart's Flute and Harp concerto, so this is definitely not to be missed.
In addition to leading us through the above, Mary Eade will perform Vivaldi's Violin Concerto "La Stravaganza", and other works on the programme are Janacek's Idyll Suite for String Orchestra and Svendsen's Variations on a Norwegian Folktune
As Friends and Patrons of Taunton Sinfonietta, many of you will already have tickets for 24th September. If you have not yet bought a ticket, in addition to buying from Taunton Visitor Centre, you can now buy them online. This is a new venture for us, so please do let us know how you got on.
Some of you may have seen some familiar faces on BBC4's "All Together Now: The Great Orchestral Challenge" which features North Devon Sinfonia. If you did not see the programmes when they were broadcast, they are still available on the BBC iPlayer. We wish them all the very best in the competition.
Please keep an eye on the website, on our Facebook page and our Twitter feed. If you would like to know more about these, Melanie (double bass) would be only too happy to help you. We look forward to seeing you on 24th September; bring your friends!
