November Newsletter 2019
Welcome to the latest news from the Taunton Sinfonietta! First, a reminder of our winter concert -
Young Musician's Platform, on Sunday 1st December at 3 pm in Temple Methodist Church, Taunton
The fine young oboist Ella Leonard, who grew up locally and is finishing her education at Wells Cathedral School, is Taunton Young Musician 2019, and she will play the Oboe Concerto by Ralph Nicholson. This is very special, as not only was Nicholson a fine composer and violinist, writing concertos for several famous soloists (the great Leon Goossens in this case), but he was the father of Di Jerrold, who inspired Ella to learn the oboe, and he lived locally in his retirement - plus he's the godfather of one of our cellists!
The programme also includes a Concerto Grosso by Corelli; the Concerto for recorder, violin and strings by Telemann with Mary Eade and Pam Canter as soloists; and three short and intriguing works by English composers - Little Music by Michael Tippett, Concerto Accademico (aka Violin Concerto) by Ralph Vaughan Williams (soloist Mary Eade), and the Fantasy for Strings by Harold Darke, composer of the much-loved carol "In the bleak midwinter".
Second, a sneak peek at the plans for 2020 -
