On Her Majesty's Birthday
The country is abuzz with plans and events, pomp and circumstance, for the Queen's Jubilee next month - and Taunton Sinfonietta has a musical offering too, in their Summer Concert on 11th June!
Come to St James' Church at 7.30 on that day, and you will hear a Celebration Concert with String Music for the Occasion: most apt will be Clive Jenkins's "Majesty", originally written for a concert, but later played for a special event in Windsor Castle, and also "Thames Reflections", written to celebrate the river in its various modes and moods.
More familiar will be Concertos by Handel, Vivaldi and JS Bach - his Double Concerto for two Violins, rightly much loved - and a less familiar quartet by Nardini, an Italian composer and violin star of the 18th century.
Without the pop pieces, but with splendid music for a celebration !
Tickets @ £15 Students £1 Friends £12, are available from
Taunton Visitor Centre on 01823 340470
