June newsletter 2019
Dear Supporters,
Summer has arrived, and what better way to round off a lovely summer's day (or indeed, a nasty wet one!) than listening to a live concert?
Taunton Sinfonietta invites you to come along to our summer concert entitled
"Gems in June"
on
Saturday 22nd June at 7.30 pm in St James' Church, Taunton
The Orchestra will be joined by the fine oboist Lynn Carter in Cimarosa's beautiful Oboe Concerto, and in the haunting Adagio for Oboe, Cello and Strings by the little-known Baroque composer Domenico Zipoli. We are delighted that the popular Devon-born composer, Clive Jenkins, has written a Serenade for Strings specially for us - it will receive its world premiere. To complete the programme, Elgar's Idylle for Violin and Strings, "Company" by Philip Glass (a version for Strings of his Quartet no.2), and the ever-popular Dvorak String Serenade, 0p.22, will be played... many gems for you to enjoy this June!
After the Summer, our Autumn Concert on Saturday 21st September (also in St James' Church) features works by Rossini, Dvorak and Elgar, and the world premiere of the Bassoon Concerto by the contemporary composer/player Sarah Wormell, who has delighted us with several of her compositions in recent years.
The final concert of 2019 will be the Young Musician's platform on 1st December, when the Taunton Young Musician 2019 will join us to play a Concerto of their choice. This year the winner is Ella Leonard, from Bampton, currently a specialist music scholar at Wells Cathedral School, and formerly of Wellington School. English string music will feature, with works by Vaughan Williams and Tippett, together with music by Corelli and Telemann.
Tickets (£15, Friends £12, Students £1) are available from Taunton Visitor Centre (tel: 01823 340470), online (tauntonsinfonietta.org.uk), or at the door on the night.
With best wishes,
