Anxious to support all things musical, please find here details of the Somerset Song Prize, as requested by Wayne Bennett, who used to be the director at Dillington House, now sadly lost as a music and arts venue!

What is the Somerset Song Prize?
It is a biennial competition for young singer/pianist duos in the 'art song' genre. The competition focuses on music composed specifically for the combination of voice and piano. Typical of this music is of course the German lieder but that is only one example of what will be performed. This will be the fifth time the competition has been held.

It is open to duos aged 18-26 and twelve duos will be invited to Taunton for the semi-finals on Saturday 11th May - six will go through to the final on Sunday 12th to be heard by our panel of distinguished adjudicators which includes the world-renowned collaborative pianist, Roger Vignoles.

In addition, those duos who are not selected for the Final will have the opportunity to work on the Sunday morning in a private master class run by the competition's Patron, the international soprano Elizabeth Watts. All Supporters of the competition (see below) are invited to attend this event free of charge.

The Semi-Final is on Saturday 11th May in Temple Methodist Church in Taunton and runs from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. (approx) and you can attend for only £5 - come and go as you please, subject to certain rules.

The Final begins at2:30 p.m. on Sunday 12th May also at Temple Methodist. Tickets are £15 (under 18s free) including free refreshments at the interval and can be obtained from the Song Prize website www.somersetsongprize.org.uk or from the Taunton Visitor Centre - 01823 340470. Remember, on Sundays, car parking is free in the Taunton town centre car parks!
